“If people in this world are daffodils,
One who is your soul mate,
Would turn you romantic.”
Ramya was seventeen then. She believed in the existence of soul mate. She believed that she would fall for the person as soon as she finds him. At this age she could only understand that if love happens then it is with your soul mate.
“On some distant land I have fallen apart,
Like the leaves of autumn shriveled on the ground,
Sometimes, in some lives,
Love isn’t to be found.”
With teary eyes, she is walking away from her parents. Today, she has tied a wedding knot with a person she didn’t love but whom her parents found suitable. The world of her dreams she had woven all these years appeared to be withering away.
“Life is like a strange song,
You never get for what you long.
Instead, it gifts you with happiness unforeseen.
Despite this, all your heart knows is to wait.
So, I am still searching for a soul mate.”
She is twenty six now; happily married to a man who makes a perfect partner, who loves her and cares about her. But still he isn’t her soul mate because in her mind the imagery of her soul mate was so intricately carved that it had no resemblance with reality. Ramya loves her husband, she makes love. However, this love is nothing like what she fancied about. For she knows that love of her dreams isn’t all about physical affinity rather it’s about the oneness of the souls.
“One who hears your thoughts,
Who sees your dreams,
Who knows when you’re in need,
Like a fireman who’s always there for your rescue,
Who wants nothing from you in lieu,
One who unties the knot of your soul,
From the world which is a bait,
Is truly your soul mate.”
She puts down her pen and gazes towards the infinity with some streaks of thoughts on her forehead. Suddenly, Ramya’s four years old little daughter springs up from her back, Ramya smiles looking at her innocent face. She would gift her writings to her daughter someday with a hope that her daughter when grows up, understands the difference between finding love and finding her soul mate.
“We love our dreams,
I love the man in my imagination.
We try to stick to the reality,
I embrace my world of contemplation.
He is not a part of my reality,
But he is the essence of my existence.
Though, he’s far,
Soul mates we are.”
