Stay peaceful and focus on your dreams

Posted on November 29, 2015 by Namrata Kumari

peace of minf, buddha, ways to stay peaceful, shantideva

No matter how much cool we try to stay there’s always a break point where our emotions burst out all of a sudden snatching away the control from our hands.

We tend to make resolutions to stay peaceful and polite and to react in a certain defined way but after a certain threshold point our resolution shatters.

Then how to keep it cool even when life hits you in the most terrible way?

These are some simple thingsย which would help you to stay calm and peaceful. With these simple exercises you would learn reacting in a much calmer way than you do today. These aren’t the all inclusive set of things, but of course, these will help you as they help me.

Work hard to not to regret

This is a problem with a procrastinator to avoid doing things on time. By doing so, procrastinators never stay at peace. They are always living with the guilt of procrastination which never allows them to enjoy life and live life peacefully. If you tend to procrastinate things on tomorrow, try setting up short term goals for yourself. It’s hard in the beginning but nothing’s impossible for those who are determined. Achieve these short term goals on time. You should start up with small and simple goals like sleeping on time, eating an apple every morning or praying to God every morning. Soon after you achieve all these short term goals you will start feeling a sense of satisfaction. You can now start setting bigger goals. Doing things properly and on time makes me feel what we call the joy of accomplishment. There’s no feeling better than this in the world, I believe. Just try doing this and feel it. You will be loving yourself and your mind would be at peace.

Take things less seriously apart from just a few

Segregate things and matters that are important to you. Make a list of all that which matters to you in your life. This may include your family, social goals, financial goals, your blog, your customers, self-improvement or anything. This way you make a clear picture in your mind about what is important in your life and even better than this, this would allow you to separate it from what’s unimportant and can be ignored in your day to day life. Now every time you start panicking, ask yourself is this something which really matters to me. If yes, do something for it to be at peace. If not, then? ๐Ÿ˜€ You know it better.

Create your own mental image of yourself

Imagine taking out a shadow of yourself out of you and making it stand facing you. Think about how do you look at it? What do you think about it? Imagine that shadow being mad, angry, and panicky all the time. You wouldn’t like this image of yours. Now imagine that your shadow, your image stands in the Photoshop editing window before you and you can use all the tools to make it more polite, confident, firm and composed. Remember, it’s about being what you really wish to be. If you wish to be a calmer, composed and a peaceful soul edit your image applying the customization. Be the kind of a person you wish to be. After making these corrective changes (pulling your real self back out of the corrupted version of yours) bring the shadow back in you and feel yourself absorbing it within you. Trust me you would feel changed with this mental exercise. Do it again after some days and stick to the image that you have created for yourself.

You are not here to change the world (But the world is here to change you)

Ignore a few things, learn to take them lightly. Every little thing is not your responsibility. You are not entitled to change someoneโ€™s heart or teach them a lesson. Even if they mock you or make fun of you, even if they misbehave letโ€™s think that they are here to teach you the lessons of life, to transform you into a better, composed and thoughtful person. This is the only feasible solution; you cannot go on taking revenge or answering back everyone. We cannot control everyone, but can certainly master our own mind. See everyone as a medium of the nature who comes to meet you to grow you as a person. I had read these lines which have deeply touched my heart,

Where would I possibly find enough leather
With which to cover the surface of the earth?
But (just) leather on the soles of my shoes
Is equivalent to covering the earth with it

Likewise it is not possible for me
To restrain the external course of things
But should I restrain this mind of mine
What would be the need to restrain all else?โ€

โ€œAll those who slight me to my face,
Or do me any other evil,
Even if they blame or slander me,
May they attain the fortune of enlightenment!”

โ€“ Shantideva

Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without., buddha, quotes

Peace of mind comes with wisdom. The wisdom to ignore useless things, wisdom of letting go of what we cannot keep a hold on keeping it peaceful and without causing harm (to us or to others).

I believe in being peaceful but it should not be confused with lack of energy, vigilance and anxiety to reach your goals. Here, by being peaceful we mean having enough control over your mind so that you can subdue the ripples that the external world creates in your mind and do not allow you to focus to excel and work towards your dream.

“Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath.”

Michael Caine

Let’s be calm and focused. ๐Ÿ™‚ Our inner agitation should let us move towards our goal and the external upheavals must be tackled with wisdom and peace.

Have a peaceful day.

Lovely thoughts, Namrata. My best would be to not over-think…take things lightly, but learn from them!
If you want to be at peace, you need to learn to let it go!

SIMPLE WORDS , with a remarkably STRONG MESSAGE…
also I liked the ” statutory warning ” part, as being at peace, can often be misjudged as being lifeless..
    Was worth a stop.
    Keep writing, senior… ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks a lot, Abhimanyu. You liked reading the part which I liked writing the most. ๐Ÿ˜€ Peacefulness is not inactivity. It’s the wisdom to overlook the useless and to be focused towards your dreams. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing your experience. I do have similar sentiments. While reading this article before attempting to begin my task proves that procrastinating can be a distraction however, it was a lesson.

I am glad that you found it helpful and found some strings connected with my ideas. I have been a deadly procrastinator. However, now I have learnt how to control it. The way I learnt it is very interesting. You can also do it, Gloria.

Thank You so much for reading.
