Of all the great faces, the greatest is the one I am living with. She is the candle of my life, melting down each and every day, shedding down her youth and beauty to build up good humans. There must be a vision in her mind and a dream which she wishes to take a concrete form in her children. Ages have passed and she is still on her mission to keep her home safe at any cost and build up lives.
Mummy, before marriage 🙂
Diamonds are the toughest of all substance on earth, but how about mothers? Aren’t they tougher and shinier than the diamonds? My mother is a simplest lady I ever met, trust me. She never steps into a beauty parlor, she doesn’t apply makeup, wears a simple sari, a streak of vermilion on her head, glass bangles, shaankha, pola on wrists, and makes a bun out of her hair. I bet I can’t find a woman as simple as her in today’s fashion crazy world. She had been my tutor till I was in my primary school. Her principle is that a child doesn’t need a tutor other that a mother in his early learning ages. Just it needs the mother to be all attentive about what her kid needs to learn and how. I remember her putting dots into my little brother’s notebook to make him join them to form English and Hindi alphabets. She says she did the same thing for me too. According to her, building anything is easier than building lives.
She has inherited the quality from her mother to put her family first. I met a few women in a marriage function. They must be some ten years older than me, discussing about how tiring it gets when their infants didn’t sleep at night. One of the ladies among them sprung up with a suggestion to make the baby swallow a little brandy to make him sleep. I was appalled. I remembered my mother talking about the hardships she went through making her kids sleep. She even had to stay awake all night. I felt lucky at that moment as well as felt pity for the crawling baby there.
Mummy and Nani (With her mother)
My mother is religious, like being really religious. She believes in doing things righteously. Not making fool of anyone, paying respect to guests and elders, and wishing well being for all in her prayers. It’s all because of her teachings that I too believe in goodness and that being good pays in the form of peace and contentment.
Out of all good that she possess, the best is her spirit with which she allowed her daughters to get a quality education so that they don’t stay financially dependent as her. Prior to this no girl in my family had gone for systematic higher studies that too out of their homes. And I strongly believe that it was her vision that I am here, typing about her today. After the spark she had lit I can see how my nearest relatives too are in the favor of sending their girls out for studies. She is the first link of the change in our society. I wish I could be the next one and bring greater changes for better.
Mummy and me
This was a note for the greatest lady of my life, my mother. I wish she stays by my side forever and shows me the right path as does a lighthouse. 🙂
