It won’t be wrong to say that a dream is the spark of life. It is the gleam of one’s eyes. Whole life we strive to accomplish it and when the goal is met we treasure the journey in our memories.
What could possibly be the dreams of a girl who belongs to an Indian middle class family, and has parents who just dream and work for their children’s future? Perhaps, it would only be to make her parents proud and validate their hard work and sacrifices by her own sincere efforts. This is so much the story of my life. But there is one more wish I live with. And that wish, moreover, a dream is to travel abroad and meet new people, know more about them and make friends. My heart throbs with a thought of exploring beyond the boundaries. For a few, life is a dream. And for those like me, life is all about turning dreams into reality but only if my honest efforts allow me to do so. I belong to the section of the Indian population who thinks twice about the month’s budget before entering into a restaurant.
But one fine day the stars were met and I lived my dreams. It sounds so much like a Cinderella story. Well, to me it’s somewhat like that. For a good (exemplary they say but I don’t) academic performance I was awarded a four days trip to the splendid eastern cosmopolitan city, Singapore. I was seventeen at that time and it still happens to be an overrated achievement of my life. I call it overrated as my family members still call me a ‘Singaporean’ for fun. I guess, they won’t ever forget it.
While rummaging through the old files and folders I spotted on the kid’s treasure. The kid absolutely is me and the treasures? Yes, I am here to share them today with all. You too would find it quite funny but then funny things are fun to be remembered again and again.
Here is the souvenir of the dreamland I once visited.
The group photo at the Tiger Sky Tower, Sentosa Island, Singapore.
The pamphlets I picked up from the tourist spots. It is fun to flick through the pages sometimes.
Tickets and cards. Yes, I have kept them safe as well.
My economy class baggage tag. It was my first journey on an airplane with Singapore airlines, an experience quite close to heart.
With the white tiger at Singapore Zoo
The tribute site for the Glorious dead of the war.
At Jurong bird park.
Last but the best is the video we made of our beautiful trip from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata to Singapore.
The trip taught me a few valuable things and as it was my first trip outside India, I learnt a lot about people from different places. Flipping through the photos and looking back at the memento I have saved I feel that the journey is still on. The world will raise its arms to embrace me. I just have to make an effort. Can there be a better memento than that which instills hope?
And here I tag few of my blogger friends to share their memento with us as I did. They are-
